Aventurine's name is derived from the Italian for "chance" or "random," which some say is due to its chance discovery, whereas others say that it refers to the randomly deposited mica particles within it.  The color of aventurine is variable, ranging from blue, blue-green, brownish-red, and gray to yellow.  The most common color, however, is green.
